Hello,
My name is Max, allow me to introduce myself and tell you about what I do. Over that past 3 years I have worked professionally as a designer and art director. I have had the privilege to work with many different clients with varying wants and needs. I am a fellow west side Des Moines native who attended Drake University studying music and art. I find creativity to be one of my strongest attributes. I mainly focus on digital and print graphics as well as directing and designing creative campaigns for various clients throughout the metro. I also find enjoyment in designing and crafting wood furniture.
My work journey started when I was in college. After enrolling at Drake to study psychology and music I realized very quickly during my first semester that I didn't enjoy the sciences at all. In addition to my science classes I was taking music classes. During that September I went to the dean and my advisor to ask if I could completely switch over to music. Soon after I was only enrolled in music classes. Over the next two years I practiced and studied music more than I ever had in my entire life. From elementary to the end of high school I played saxophone constantly. When I was in high school I met with a private instructor every week for an hour to work on playing my saxophone, my instructor who had studied music at Wartburg and then worked as a graphic designer for his day job would become one of the biggest and most helpful influences I would ever meet. After my first two years of college I realized that I wanted to take studio art classes, soon after that I wanted to major in both music and art. I would describe the last two years of college to be better than the first and second years due to the fact I was studying what I enjoyed most. But sadly due to some unexpected health and life events I was never able to finish my final semester of my senior year. But without fail, it always gets better. Soon after leaving college I met with my old saxophone instructor for lunch one day and he gave me an opportunity that brought me to where I am today.
During the coming years I was given the opportunity to work at his personal business Fibrae as a designer and later on as an art director. I was exposed to everything, I designed and mocked up apparel and products, I built websites and lead creative campaigns. Within a few short years I felt confident enough to even start my own business SKCH. I have now owned and operated SKCH on the side for almost a year. I focus on a small client base producing graphics for both online and physical media. Between all my work I find enjoyment in my hobbies such as climbing and biking. In addition I have two dogs that I take to the dog park daily. Everyday I work to better my creative abilities and become a stronger artist all together.
Please enjoy a few examples of my work. Thanks,
Max Sanders
